But what is modern slavery?

The control can be physical, financial or psychological.
There are many forms of modern slavery including:

Isn't slavery a thing of the past?
Sadly not.

These are conservative estimates.

Modern slavery is an ugly and largely invisible crime.

The actual numbers are likely to be much higher. [1]
Is it happening here?
It's an uncomfortable truth but yes it is.

On average more than one case of modern slavery in Greater Manchester and Cheshire is being reported a day.
Only Greater London and the West Midlands recorded more cases of modern slavery in 2024. [2]
Many UK businesses have slavery in their supply chains without even knowing it.
How is Just-Ice helping?

We support survivors of modern slavery and human trafficking by providing sympathetic employment in a caring and supportive environment.
Our aim is to prepare survivors for mainstream employment because:
EMPLOYMENT
=
INDEPENDENCE
=
FREEDOM

Survivors enrolled on our Employability Programme have the time to rebuild trust and confidence whilst learning new skills.

Through gentle encouragement, we support the beneficiaries (survivors) as they adjust to a new life free from captivity.
Beneficiaries enrolled on the scheme receive the National Living Wage. With the independence this brings, beneficiaries are able to plan for a future which finally offers hope.
How can I help?
You already have by visiting Just-Ice today - thank you!

If we could ask you to do one thing it would be to know the signs of modern slavery.

Most cases of modern slavery are reported by members of the public.

To report a concern please call the Modern Slavery Helpline

If you have reason to believe someone is in immediate danger call 999
If you'd like to donate
Profits from our cafés in Derby and Poynton are reinvested into the charity to support our work with survivors of modern slavery.

The money we receive through donations directly supports some of the most disadvantaged in society.
You can make a donation by clicking the button below, through the money jars on the counter, or by speaking to a member of staff.
Thank you!
Could you be 1 of our 25?

In October 2024 we launched our 25 for £25 Campaign.
We're looking for 25 kind and generous people like you to give £25 per month to ensure a place for one survivor of modern slavery on our employability scheme.
The money will go directly to the beneficiary (survivor) by funding their salary. These wages provide new opportunities and independence such as enrolling for higher education, learning to drive, and paying for accommodation.
We hope you enjoy your visit today and will come back soon!

Thank you for supporting our cause!
