Newcomers to the UK
Our objectives
We started as a modern slavery charity in 2020 but soon realised that almost all the slavery survivors we welcomed to the café were also asylum seekers. So we have been working with newcomers to the UK from the start.
During this time, we realised that the specialised support offered at our café could easily benefit other equally at-risk individuals. Our experience has shown that many vulnerable people are forced to flee their homes and seek refuge in the UK for a wide variety of reasons beyond slavery.
Our Trustees formally recognised this natural evolution in early 2026 by updating our charitable objectives. Today, our charity focuses on asylum seekers and refugees who bring unique lived experience of many of the issues our modern slavery survivors are facing. Our support focuses primarily on employment and housing as we build trusting relationships with these vulnerable individuals in the café.

Asylum seekers who are referred to Just-Ice receive support with training in hospitality, language skills, practical needs, and become part of our warm and welcoming community.
All of this builds an invaluable foundation to overcome the threat of homelessness and unemployment when newcomers to the UK reach the critical moment of receiving their right to remain decision
